Can an Instructable be about something that you have for sale? Answered

Can I develop an Instructable about something that I have designed and have for sale?  Be it a piece of electronics, a 3D Model, or a combination of the two?  Will having a link to this for sale item run afoul of policy?

Yes, but with caveats:

> If you just post lot of photos of your product, then give a link to buy it, that's spam. Post a topic in the Marketplace instead.
> If you write an instructable on how to use your product, like a manual, that's fine.
> If you write an instructable on how to assemble your product, that's fine.
> If you tell us how to make the product ourselves, then link to your page for buying it if we feel lazy, or lack the tools to make it ourselves, that's best.

Several prolific members (even staff) use the fourth option quite successfully - it's amazing how many people will pay for something even when they know how to do it themselves.

Gotcha, and could not agree more on point #1. I will be shooting for somewhere south in your list! I have already done a pure instructable and am working on another but had an idea for a couple more that raised my question. Thanks for the response.

If you want to see a very successful mix of Instructable and business, have a look at Mrballeng's Fish Bone projects.

Well, the Instructable is for making it not for selling, but that might just be my opinion.

There is the market place where you can sell stuff but I doubt it is a good idea to use Instructables as a selling platform.
