Can anyone make a solar recharging with a new trick? Answered

Now here's my idea, you know those LED Solar lights? Well morons in my area also like too take them and smash'em. Any ideas too make them think twice? Such as electric shock?

Video it and let the law handle it. But a baseball bat to the kneecap would be nice wouldn't it?

The inverter circuit from a disposable camera might be good match to the battery supply used in the typical solar-LED-accent light.  Both use maybe one or two cells (with a voltage of around 1.2 V per cell).

There are lots of 'ibles here on the subject of repurposing the flash charger circuits from disposable cameras, um here:

Put some metal screws or studs on the surface, in a place where one would naturally try to grasp,  and connect these to the big camera flash capacitor.

Also it might be neat if there was some way you could turn off the inverter once the capacitor had a good charge.  (And conversely, turn the inverter back on when the capacitor voltage gets too low.) The reason for this being to conserve power.  The shocker circuit, and the original LED light producing circuit are necessarily competing with each other for the limited energy in the battery.

Oh!  Almost forgot.  You might also want to double check your assumptions about the underlying psychology.  Will the shock actually act as a deterrent to the animals whose behavior you are trying to influence?

It would be ironic if the shock effect actually made your solar light fixtures more attractive to them somehow.
