Can i make my car stereo a AUX only setup? Answered

I have a purpose built street legal race car with all the stereo gear (Wire, speakers, etc) still installed but missing a head unit. I'd like to just add an aux imput to the current wiring instead of buying a head unit. Is there some product that allows me to do this? What do i need to know? Thanks

Just a little off topic of your question but it's obvious to me you are moving away from traditional media in your car. This Dual Mechless head unit (no CD, no tape) is a great way to go. Has aux input and the best iPhone/Ipad dock I've seen. Maybe an audiophile could nitpick the sound quality but it sounds great to me. Best part...these are only $38 free ship from Amazon. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002OR17LS/ref=oh_details_o01_s00_i01
Also has an optional blutooth accessory for another $30 for phone use. I bought one, used it for a year. Just bought 2 more for wife and Truck. Lot of bang for your buck here.

All you need is an car audio amplifier, and socket to plug a device into.

Thankyou for the speedy response. I thought that would be the way to go. The question now is what i would need to hook up the three things.....current wiring to the amp....amp to the plug.

There are other issues, like volume control to be looked at.

What's the problem with getting a cheap head ? It doesn't even need to be in the dash !

Thats a good point. I think realistically the issue is this...The stock head area is going to be covered by a Tablet so it cant go there. If its not going to go there then it needs to be concealed. If its concealed then you run into the issue of where and how would you change settings on it if need be with quick easy access.
