Can laptop power adapter outputs be wired in series? Answered

I need a 24v DC power source, and I have a few spare 12v Laptop adapters lying around.

I know you need to connect the positive end of one to the neg end of the other, but something tells me that's gonna create a short somewhere.

Not sure how this is gonna work. Any advice?

Don't try to exceed the maximum current for either power supply.

Short answer: some you can, some you can't. Give it a try with a large ohmage resistor across it so it doesnt cook -- just long enough to see if it spits out 24v, or if the sensors in some of them might get mad that they seem to have a lot more voltage than they intended...Others still act 'dumb' like a battery would and the series voltage gets added no problem... If the adapters are spare, give it a try, you never know til you try. Lastly, can your 'thing' be wired to work with 12v?
