Sometimes you can modify the drive by adding the EXACT memory chip to the drive and connecting the right lines, but getting the EXACT chip if very difficult and you have to know how to connect them together. Guess you just better save some more money.
Given that a new brand-name 4gb thumbdrive is available for under $15 these days (less for no-name), I honestly don't think it's worth the effort, even if you have one that can be modified relatively easily.
