"any" camera - no.

most cameras? yes.

There was a better site - but I lost it.

Research first, or go to a big box store where they let you play with the settings. Find one that fits your needs with:

Physical size
Cost
Battery type/replacements/rechargables
Lens(es) - they contribute greatly to overall picture quality. Cheap lens = cheap pictures. Canon has particularly nice glass.
Megapixel
'features' such as video, scene modes, ability to set exposures longer than 1 second...etc.

I just keep answering - I think its around 1/9 answers converted :) It'd be better if a lot of people would actually mark things as answered...thanks by the way! Really photography is really pretty awesome - especially when you can do stuff like these long exposure fun pictures. Picking the right camera involves lots of research for whats exactly right for you. Don't let the salesman pressure you!

Bestbuy is 'okay' as retailers go - they're not a camera store though - if you get into the serious stuff eventually - go with a retailer that knows every micron of the camera inside and out. :D (that and I dislike big box stores)

they have their place - they don't have any 'high' tech, they just have tech. There are bad, good, and better versions of everything - wal mart carries the low end stuff they can sell for the low end pricing. It's a business model. You won't find any 3000 dollar bikes or a high end roomba, or a quality kitchen-aid - you'll find the low grade consumer versions.
