Changing a remote control?
Hi I have a remote controlled bait boat tht I use for fishing but the remote control ain't great and was wondering if I could maybe change it for an old one off of a RC car (cheap child's one) as the one I have ony has 3 buttons, 1 for forward and 2 for left n right, oh and 1 for activating the hopper to let the bait out, if this is possible and someone could give me some advise I would be very grateful, also obviuosly my boat hasn't got a reverse could tht be incorporated into it or is tht gonna be a whole new motor??

You could give it a try, but it most likely worn't work well, if at all. Usually most RC vehicles have different encoding from model to model. But as long the the frequencies are the same (look for a red or yellow sticker) you may get lucky
To reverse the engine you could use an H-Bridge, but for something this simple you will need a simple relay. Tie the Coil of the relay to the hopper in parallel, and Wire it up like the Pic I crudely sketched out
Have you tried attaching a longer antenna?

Ok thx for tht not quite sure if I understand it mind, n it's not the range I have the problem with its the remote itself i Dnt like it as it's just like a tv remote but not so many buttons, thx anyway will have a go with wot u suggest, I thought maybe it would be as easy as opening my remote and the new one and getting the same "somthing" to have it run on the same frequency sort of..

If it's an infrared Controlled boat, then it's relatively easy to build a custom controller !
it will take some time to learn how to use a micro controller mind you >.>

Do u use the BB = bait boat on the ocean ie large waves ?
How far is the BB controlled from you ie range ?
Does the BB have a built in 180' turn or stop when it looses the signal ?

Hi Thx for the reply, no only on lakes in good weather really need it to go bout 50-80 yards yes I believe it stops wen out of range but I can't be 100% on tht ,. All I'm wanting is to control it via a different remote , one with joysticks instead of buttons as obviously joystick it easier and quicker to move..
