Cleaning an old train tail light from soot marks and repurposing it. Answered

Recently, I bought an old train tail light. What is the best way to remove the soot marks and how could I repurpose it? So what could I put in the lamp instead of a light source? My ideas were plants, an art object made of clay or something electronic, such as a custom-made Bluetooth speaker. Which ideas do you have?

It looks very nice, as far as I can tell from the picture attached to this topic. In fact I do not see any soot marks on it.

Maybe it is sooty on the inside? I guess that would make sense if its former light source was soot producing, like a candle, or other source of fire.

I have found that soot can be removed from smooth surfaces just by wiping, like with a cloth or something.

I am not sure what is the best thing to do, to repurpose this artifact. I think I would try putting a modern, electric powered, light source in it, and seeing what that looks like.
