That's true as a Text Editor such as Notepad doesn't work with formatting, usually shows. Might try it in WordPad. I've had success opening stubborn files in QuickView Plus, usually can copy readable text and paste into a program.

Usually word files that are corrupt have a bad header - the part that tells word about fonts, formatting etc.

If you open your file as a text file, you may be able to do that with word or try using note pad or word pad - these should be part of your windows system. You may need to change the .doc to .txt to open with notepad.

You will see the file and LOT or guff at the start and end but the text should be in there somewhere, you need to cut and paste it to an new document.

this is an example opened in wordpad.

The text says "this is a test document" I only copied the top half down to the text!

I opened it by right clicking the file and selecting open with.
