Dell Inpiron 8000 wont start? Answered

I have an old dell inspiron 8000 laptop that wont start. when I go to turn it on, the power light comes one for about five seconds and then the drives stop spinning and the light goes out. I took it apart a while ago, but I put it together exactly as i found it. could this be a static problem or a cpu failure? I use this computer for testing out older OS's and it would be nice to be able to use it again. can someone help me? thanks.

Try taking out the battery and starting it on AC only. The battery could be bad. Some will start with out the battery and some will not. It just depends on the model, but it is a place to start.

Yeah I've seen bad batteries do this, but also bad power adapters... Check the adapter if the battery removal doesn't fix it.

Could be the RAM chips are not seated properly take it out and refit it carefully. also the usb ports can cause this sort of issue if the pins are damaged and shorted out.
