Dissolving material Answered

Any material that dissolves in water after a particular period of time (eg:3000 litres) .. or any other way to achieve it..?

pretty much anything soluble will require a certain amount of fluid to dissolve it. Once a small volume of fluid is saturated, no more will dissolve.

I'm guessing, and it's a stretch, that the author wants something to remain undissolved until 3000 litres have passed through a pipe...?
