Does a video have to be embedded in youtube before it can be uploaded to instructables?
I created a video that I want to upload. Do I have to publish it to something like YouTube before I can publish it on instructables?

depends, if you want it to be big and want it to have the front image of the video, you want it where the pictures usually are, then you will have to upload it to YouTube. Whereas, if you don't mind it being a file, at the bottom of the step, then you don't need to upload it.

I used to upload apple iPhone directly but the YouTube works to remove my hand tremor so well that I prefer the YT.

Upload it onto YouTube, and post a link (embed) it in the Instructables editor.
An unlisted video will still work, if you want to keep it "private"

The answer to the question is Yes.
Upload it to YouTube or Vimeo first, then you can copy and paste the embed video address in the video upload box when editing your I'ble.
It is possible to upload video files directly to Instructables, but they will simply show as files that people need to download and open to play, embedding YouTube or Vimeo is the most user friendly way.
