Electric motor Answered

What would cause an electric motor, running a table saw, to suddenly start running at a faster speed than normal?

I have had this happen to me before. It turned out, the area I lived in had terrible electric service. The lights would dim and go brighter at any given time. Those power surges and drops cause damage to electric motors. But it didn't stop there. I also found out the hard way that when using an extension cord for motor equipment you absolutely have to use the proper sized extension cord. Most hybrid table saws use 12awg cords. A 12 awg extension cord is easily overlooked but you absolutely have to have that size. If you are using a 14 awg (a much more common size) ext cord. you are causing damage to the motor while running it.
Sorry bout your woes.
