Electronic Neon Transformer project help Answered

I have a neon sign transformer that i would like to use for high voltage projects.
The problem is it has an electronic safety circuit that (I believe) checks to see if there is a neon tube is attached.
Does anyone know how to bypass the safety system? the transformer box is full of insulating tar so accessing the electronics is near impossible.

Yeah, if it is tared over, you might be able to dissolve the tar with nasty chemicals, and connect the 120V mains directly to the transformer core. Sometimes the safety circuitry is separate from the main transformer so the mod is reasonably east. If it is all potted together internally then you are probably out of luck. Give it a nice huge pulse of current to the input, and hope that it destroys the protection and nothing else!
