Elvis has left his domicile Answered

My wife and I had one of the cavies featured in my Cavy / Guinea Pig ible, i.e. Elvis, in for surgery. Although he made it through surgery (a cancerous kidney removal), the other kidney failed, and he perished during the night. Here he is, one more time, when he was much younger, being held by my wife....

Thanks. He was a gorgeous piggie when he got older....if I have some other pics, I will add them to this. It is always sad when they go so quickly, so young (he was a bit over 3, so he wasn't really overly old yet).

How long do your piggies usually last? And I would love to see more pictures!

The average is about 4-5 years. After 5 year of age they are getting really old (I have seen, not owned, one that lived about 10 years, but that is really rare). My wife has some more pics I believe, somewhere.....(I hope). Elvis was somewhere between 3 and 4 we believe....rescue cavies without information about them, can be difficult to know for sure.

It is hard to understand, but yes, they get abandoned or sometimes left at the humane league....and when we have the room, we rescue what we can; and our vet, she does even more. We can only house about 4 at a time safely and cleanly, but she can have up to 20 or so, and normally does. :-)

Why would anyone ever abandon a cute little piggie? It seems, so, heartless.

I am sorry that he didn't live very long Goodhart. He was cute. BTW, is that the first picture that you've posted of your wife?

Thanks, it is really hard for my wife to loose him after being with us only a few years (a little over 2).
