Exerting pressure with no anchor or flexible to solid. Answered

I am starting a project and have found 2 ways to achieve one part, but I can't find a legitimate way to put it into use.

1) Exerting pressure without an anchor
2) Creating a bendable "spine" which can prevent movement past a point which is subject to change

Each comes with it's own problems, the first needs some sort of stable anchor to be able to work, but having an anchor could exert unwanted pressure in other areas. The second one is difficult to find something on, whilst there are ways to do so, I can't seem to figure a way without using electromagnets(which may overheat)

1) Each and every force requires an equal force opposing it.
Some people even claim it is a law of physics...
Unless you can specify this much better for us to understand I would say no chance.
2) Can be done in a similar fashion like the old window winders.
Also like in the robotics and machine area where flexible cable runs are used on moving parts, like a bike chain that is limited from straight to curled up.

I'm trying not to give much away about this, but it's going to be used so humans can manipulate it directly, it needs to be restrained from bending over a limit which can change in a second. As for number 1, you are right and I had the idea for 2 weeks before I realised that problem, which is why I am here now.

I'm thinking about getting a patent and then getting a company to actually develop the idea seeing as I am getting a clearer idea of how it will function.

So you're expecting to commercialize this with the intention of making some money on it but you want our help to actually make it work for free?

I was just trying to get ideas rolling, every time I think I've worked something out, physics just turns around and says "NO!" I have heaps of other ideas that can work, such as vibration, but I am having trouble with researching for existing technology that is similar

Sure, but my point stands. You are free to seek help here, or anywhere, but when your plan is to use that help to commercialize a product you can't expect many people to put any sort of serious effort into it.

I know that. I think I've worked out my solution anyways. A material with a high boiling point with electromagnets in the spine. This thing here is all I have left now in my life, so I'm pretty determined to get it working with or without help.

That's good. Don't get me wrong, I hope your project is wildly successful.

Me too, once it takes off, I'll have actually achieved something in my life

We can only offer help and ideas for the things we know, so not knowing much about the project means not much help :(
But as I said, my offer stands and if you need more ideas simply PM me if you don't want it posted.

Exerting pressure with no anchor---- I believe that is what a rocket engine does.

I thought about something similar to that, but what i'm doing is small scale stuff, the sort that can fit in the palm of your hand.

I can't quite see that working, the people I'm working with suggested hydraulics, but they're too big at the moment

Implementation of either method will be determined by what it is your trying to accomplish. So if your looking for help you'll need to explain your project so we can better understand the situation and can make recommendations to help your achieve your goal.

It's something I'm trying to keep as secret as possible (It's something that I expect to see developed soon by some random company), I think I may have a solution to start with but I can't develop it without help, so I just need to get a solid blueprint down

If you want you can contact me by PM to discuss some details, if I can help you I will.
And no, I have no interest in your secrects but without sharing a bit more it will be impossible to help.

What sort of pressure?

what sort of materials. Not enough information here to go with yet.
