External HD using salvaged Laptop HD Answered





I want to build an external hard drive using a Laptop HD, and power it via USB. Is this conceivable? I don't have a problem getting or making an external cover. I'm more concerned with powering it solely from a USB drive.

yes, it is powered mainly by usb. no power cable. it has a circuit bord that just slots into the hard drive and a mini usb connector for the cable

you could buy and external enclousure. I have a wd external hard disc that i take appart all the time to read laptod hard drives when they crash.

Is it powered strictly from USB? That's the main question.

I want to build it from scratch including the enclosure, I've been looking at instructables that assist with that.

I was more concerned with being able to power it solely from USB.
