Feature request - ability to edit your own posts in the forum
it would be great if we had the ability to edit our posts in the forum...i've got some learning disabilities and when i get to typing a lot of stuff or typing really fast i have a habit of making drastic mistakes (complete wrong words or letters etc...)...it would be great if we could edit those out after posting something....even if that edit ability were time limited (like within 30 minutes of posting) i hate having to reply to my own posts with corrections

If such a facility was coded, it would have to lock posts as soon as they get a reply, though - imagine the mischief that could be caused if posters replied to a comment, then the first comment got altered to make the reply look silly.
A quick-fix that I and other use, though, it the copy-delete.
If you realise you have posted a mistake, quickly copy the text and delete the post before you get a reply. Your post will disappear without trace, then you can re-reply, paste in the copied text, and edit out the mistakes.
I just did that, to add...
Oh, and if you install FireFox, you can get a plug-in to check your spelling as you type, just like a word processor.

without rehashing all the arguments posted in the thread that lemony mentioned....your fears are off base...the ONLY place that i can foresee rampant thread editing like that would be the K'Nex area...which...honestly who cares what they do
it's kind of silly to project that activity on people...
I've "worked" on quite a few web forums in my time...and all of them have some form of edit ability. it's VERY simple to FORCE an "edited by" tag line on any edits (by staff or otherwise) so it would be very simple to know when someone has edited something to make you look silly... ALSO, the forum's email function has a great ability to email you the content of the replies/posts that occur...so someone would have the original content no matter what
also. most of my mistakes aren't spelling errors (i do have spell check in IE, plus the forum itself has a spell check function so, that suggestion is moot)...my issues stem from some moderate to severe learning disabilities (predominantly dyslexia) and involve placing completely wrong words in things that i type (and say, and write) which won't get caught by a spell checker

I totally see what you mean, but we don't have a k'NEX "area" - anybody can, and does, post anywhere.
I'm kind of in support of your request, I just think that posts should be locked once they've had a reply.

They are locked against total deletion, shouldn't be that hard to do. To illustrate the point I'll delete the comment I posted yesterday, I couldn't make it vanish with a reply on it.
