Flamethrower vs. fire extinguisher Answered

The video for "Ritalin" by Dancing Pigeons features some lovely slo-mo footage of a battle between a flamethrower and a fire extinguisher. Well, the battle itself isn't as intense as it sounds, really, but the footage is pretty damn cool. The footage was shot with a Vision Research Phantom, a camera I truly wish was affordable. I would be shooting everything in slo-mo.

Cool video. I wouldn't bank on a fire extinguisher stopping a flamethrower. I imagine that the duelist were set up at the right distance to make this look like the streams were canceling each other out. I'm reasonably sure the flamethrower would not be banned internationally if it was so easily countered.

Flamethrowers are 100% legal to own in the US, with no regulatory measures like firearms. Youre just as likely to hurt yourself as anyone else with one tohugh haha

If you want to do really neat tricks with a cheap(ish) camera, get a Canon and install CHDK onto it. Not sure anyone has cracked hundreds of frames a second video, but there are scripts to let you do motion detection with really fast photos, so letting you freeze time without much effort.

CHDK is a lot of fun and a powerful addition to standard cameras, but it's firmware and as such can't improve the hardware it runs on. One of its best abilities goes in the other direction: making cool time lapse videos with the intervalometer.
