Sounds like a better entry for the Green contest that just ended. Off the grid means it is entirely self sustainable but for the contest just some part of it needs to be. If you convert something to solar power that is green and off the grid. If you reduce emissions from an ICE that is green but not off the grid.
There is a decent description on the info page of the contest. You could always just submit it and if it's included then great, if not no loss.
I agree with you that my idea is much better suited to the Green contests. Thanks for bringing it to my attention. I forgot about those contests. I will consider it for the next Green contest.

Instead of gas (petrol) you could modify an engine to run on biogas or a gasifier.
