Geared Motors in Household Items Answered

there's only like 15 entries in the robot contest, and I think part of the reason (not all) is the parts that people have on hand. Does anybody know where to get a motor (with a geartrain head on) in a household device? I don't wanna go buy one

Here's a great find by westfw, that has two motors with gearbox, plus a remote control receiver and transmitter - for just $10! Excellent fodder for a robot project!

You may not be able to find the exact same model, but I've seen similar ones for sale elsewhere. Here's one example (just one of the first google hits for "cheap RC car" - not necessarily a website I know or recommend). You can probably find something similar at Target/Walmart/Radio Shack, etc.

I'll look for one of those tiny cars, my brother had one about 3 or 4 years ago, I don't know what happened to it.

I don't think your folks are going to let you scavenge the washing machine or dishwasher...
