. It depends on the data. Text files (eg, web pages) will usually compress very well, but most audio/video files are already compressed and will seldom gain much from further compression. Don't expect 100:1 compression, even for text files. . If you have a lot of small files, even if already compressed, you can usually gain some room by archiving then into just one file (eg, TAR).

Do you have any archive software like a "zip" archiver (are you asking for help with this)? Noting the other comments here - what takes up most of the space - i.e. what file format? L

Impossible. The best you can do is to .7z it at highest compression rate.

Depends on the data - some data can in fact compress over 99% because it's all empty space in a file... Any files with real data in them are gonna have a hard time being compressed further.

+1 (ie, agreed). Depends entirely on what your data is. English text can fairly easily be compressed to about a third of its size. XML markup compresses very well. A binary data file which is mostly zeros will compress like crazy; a data file containing truly random numbers probably won't compress at all. And a file which is already compressed will probably not compress further. So unless there's something odd about your data, you'll be fairly lucky to get 10:1 reduction, never mind the 100:1 you're looking for.
