I don't have a cable box that the problem... but i solved the problem by buying a tv tuner for my laptop. i can either burn dvds or save shows to my external hard drive.

Thanks for the help!

There are A LOT of ways to do this, but but you left out the most important model number, your cable box's...
1. If it has RCA (yellow, red, white) outputs, it's a simple matter of connecting them to the DVD/VCR and recording there.
2. If you only have one output on your cable box, get a second coaxial cable(the ones with the metal screw ends) and plug that into your the input of your DVD/VCR and then from the DVD/VCR's output to your TV.
3. If your DVD/VCR doesn't have and output, get a coaxial splitter and two extra cables. From the output of the cable box, go to the splitter, and from there to the TV and DVD/VCR

Remember, if you record on your DVD/VCR it will record everything that shows up on the screen. That means if you pull up the guide or change the channel, it will be recorded that way.

I can´t find a manual for this type, but usualy you just have to connect the tv cable to the recorder and another cable from the recorder to your tv so you can programm it via on-screen-menue....maybe i missunderstand your question, but i think you just have to unplug the tv cable from your tv and plug it into your vcr...
