Help with building a reel Answered

I have got problem with long wires of power and audio and I decided I must find a way to organize it all.
I thought about putting them into reels that include some kind of a spring that keeps that whole package well organized all the time.
After a bit of searching I saw this cool thing: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8y1ofeGJc20
but it's too small for my needs.

My question: what's the science behind this thing? How to build it just in bigger dimensions?

You can also get reels for kites ;)

They have a manual crank in the center and a big reel on the outside for the line.

In the plastic version they are quite cheap, just check a hobby shop or better a dedicated kite shop.

As for automatic reels: Check old vacuum cleaner on the scrap :)

They have the same mechanism as a tape measure but a much bigger reel to hold the cable.

You might have to make suitable encloser for it though.

Take apart a tape measure or the ends of a window roller blind pole. Therein lies the rub.
