Here's the CHALLENGE Answered

Most of the mechanical stuff I dream up I can put together. I plan on submitting an Instructable in about 3 or 4 months. But I'm not so great electrically. So of course one of the things that I'd like to do, but find to be insurmountable is an Instructable for a digital camera that will monitor the exterior surroundings of my car for as close to 360 degrees as possible while I drive and while I'm parked AND be concealed AND be able to record all of the events for 24 hours. I'm sure someone out there would know how to do this.

You'll want more than one web-cam type thing or a single with a fish-eye and a computer.

Thanks for the reply. I was thinking of 4 cameras stashed in the trunk with each one having a fiber optic cable and lens on the end. The cable could be snaked through the body of the car and point out under the head liner at the front and back windows. The imagery from the cameras could then be fed in to a computer I guess, that would process all 4 inputs into a single split screeen type of display.

Or maybe you want a sneaky-ignition-isolator? (or "booby-traps")

Sorry, no. The intent is two-fold: 1) security for my car while it's parked at the train station 2) objective evidence in the event of an automobile accident.

Secure means "stop it from being stolen / damaged" - cameras will show that happening, but will not necessarily prevent it from happening. Crash recording people do. I've seen "sad-gits" on YouTube posting videos of "bad driving". A laptop & web-cam might do that for you? L

What usually happens in the parking lots of train stations is that wheels will be stolen, or the windows will be broken and stuff from inside the car will be taken or the trunk opened up - stuff like that. Certainly, there is the theft of the entire car also. More often than not, the car is recovered - usually with less parts than then when you had it last or it was involved in a much bigger caper. To be able to have a camera and recorder with about 6 small diameter pinhole type lenses around the interior of the car, I would be able record those kinds of events about my car and possibly other cars that surround me. Certainly if the car was involved in some larger type of crime - that would be a bonus burger.

You might, but secure locking-nuts on the wheels etc might be better. If the thing is nicked and never seen again you lose your cameras too...
