or if u suffer from Hippopotomonstrosesquippedaliophobia...
Reply 10 years ago
In this case it isn't "or" it is "and ;-) since Sesquipedalophobia means the same thing (actually, it is a potion of the longer work.....)

What protein is that then?

Reply 10 years ago
Titin, though it seems like it's real name should be longer.
Reply 10 years ago
For long protein-sequences you go for letters, but if you want a long name...

Someone synthesised Brevetoxin B (well actually it was K C Nicalou), that's one of those top-rated >4.5 Instructables achievements. But try naming it...

Had some good teachers. Always kept us challenged. Not like highschool where it felt like they were just trying to pass people, even if they didn't deserve to.
Reply 10 years ago
My high school's trying to not pass us!
I've always hated how every single year at maths is doing very simple maths, like basic algebra and surface area; in year 9.

typically when entering the "long word" competition it can't be a technical term, it can't be a coined term and it actually has to be in english (i.e. not latin)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Longest_word_in_English
the long held notion of antidisestablishmentarianism as being the longest word is still up there given that it's got no challenges based on the previously mentioned stipulations.
what about antiantidisestablishmentarianism? or being against antidisestablishmentarianism? one could argue that that just means you're a disestablishmentarian, but what if you're neither for nor against disestablishmentarianism but you're explicitely against being against it?

There was that really long word that was used to name some chemical. I saw it on the back of a dictionary, it took up the entire page.
Reply 10 years ago
(chemical) IUPAC naming is a bit like Lego or K'NEX - you can build a really-long word if you're describing something complex. It's a logical description of the bits and the way they're arranged.
