How To Use the Alarm from an Alarm Clock in Something Else? Answered

I wanted to make an alarm type thingy, ad I want to use the alarm from an alarm clock. I don't know how though, I tried connecting a cell to the wires that were already on the alarm, but it won't work. I think it's one of those piezo-electric crystal thingies. And I know I have to have pressure on it to work. How exactly would I use it?

Do you mean the speaker-like bit? Does it make a single quiet tick sound when you connect and/or disconnect the cell?

You need a varying voltage to get a sound - some sort of signal generator, or at least a rapidly-varying voltage.

Yeah, it's like a little metal disk with a hole in the middle. I don't have any anymore though, but I don't remember it doing anything when I used it.

Aeshir, the "pressure" you refer to is the ability of the piezo device to "generate" electricity if pressure is applied. But to use it as a buzzer, as Kiteman has already advised, you need an oscillating voltage.

Oh yeah, I took that in science this year (my schooling is...off schedule). So it vibrates when you apply electricty and it vibrates against something to make the buzzing sound? How would I produce and oscillating voltage? I don't have any fancy resistors or anything.

Well actually I have tons of resistors. In a large box of random electronic crap.
