How can I fix un-working headphones? Answered

The problem is in the head-phone bit, not the wire outside. Loose wires/connections inside? Sound comes and goes, so I imagine something somewhere is loose. If I knew what problems to look for, I could attack with solder, yes?

a lot of the time it's just a wire or two desconnected from the speaker, you can re-solder that. If it's a problem at the jack, buy new ones, or get cheap ones and make a transplant.

Sometimes the wires are fragile and the fine strands inside break. See if you can take them apart to test your hypothesis. See if you can replace the whole wire if the speakers look fine inside? (I assume it can't be what your plugging them into) L
