Same as above......... How do I dry Sunflower seeds? Just cut them and let them dry on their own? In a bowl or tray, inside or outside, of course protected from the birds!! Thanks?

For just drying, not roasting, leave a single layer of the sunflower seeds / kernels on a cookie tray and leave it over a heater.

Lots of people just leave the seeds where they are, in the flower on the plant, and wrap the flowerhead in cheesecloth to discourage birds.

The University of Minnesota Extension site gives a method for drying (roasting, really) hulled sunflower seeds:

"SUNFLOWER SEEDS

1. Place a single layer of raw seeds (removed form(sic) shell) on a cookie sheet.
2. Roast at 300 degrees F for 30 - 40 minutes. Sir(sic again) occasionally.
3. Remove from oven.
4. Salt to taste.
5. Store in covered containers.

For salted in the shell sunflower seeds, cover seeds with slated water in two quarts of water and 1/4 to 1/2 cup salt. Soak overnight or bring to boil and simmer for 2 hours. Drain and dry seeds according to above directions.
