I am having dificulty with finding a setup that will give me control of the daily running of the Cafe. I want to build an entire infrastructure for a internet cafe. I need to know what software to use to control the access of PCs and the Wifi. I am familiar with servers, proxies, switches, and APs. I need help with the contol softwares.

An idea I once kicked around a little and tried to talk the library into, at least to do a prototype, is to us a DVD to boot from and run off of. You can set the DVD up with something like KNOPIX with everything included, all extra programs. You start the computer and it boots from the DVD. Disconnect or even remove the hard drive. Now you have a bullet proof machine. It cannot be altered, infected, hacked or messed up in any way. Everything is temporary, when the computer is turned off it is all erased. There would be no need for a server, no matter how it is messed up, it starts new and fresh everytime it is booted up.

A simple way to control access is to have people pick up the operating System Disk, rent it for a fee. No computer can boot with out the disk. ck it out with a deposite which is returned when it is checked in.

Hey there, If you want better answers I would suggest giving more details. Let us know how many devices your system will be host for. Will these be managed by you or will there be a mix of user devices/phones/laptops etc and your own? Do you want to allow open internet or do you require to filter it? Will you charge and if so will it be depending on time or/and limit bandwidth or throughput? Will you provide the ability to print? Are you wanting a cheap/free solution or are you willing to purchase software? The solution will depend largely on your requirements. For example if you can use simple hotspot firmware on a cheap wifi router/s and that might be fine for a small cafe, whereas for larger setups you would perhaps have more control with a dedicated server (perhaps running software like mkahawa, HandyCafe, cybercafepro that sort of thing). Let us know a little more and I'm sure you'll get better answers.

This will give you a cross-section of a number of packages out there. Of course you need to pick the features (levels) that best suit your requirements and budget, including one-time versus monthly costs.

Googling Internet cafe organizations or a similar query will give you additional resources to assist you with planning and assessing gaps in your plan. Hardware and software are only a part of a business plan
