How do I weave or make a cast net traditionally by hand using a shuttle and sheet bend knots? Answered

What I would like to know is how to make a cast net traditionally using a shuttle and sheet bend knots, the problem is that I dont know how many initial loops to put on the metal ring in clove hitches, and where to put the spacers, any ideas?

I would say that the easiest option is to completely fill the ring with loops. If you then multiply the number of loops by the stretched mesh size you are using it will give you the maximum possible circumference possible without increasing. For the net to take the form of a flat circle the maximum possible circumference must be greater than the actual circumference. Too few mesh and the net will become bag shaped, too many meshes doesn't matter as the meshes just stretch outwards more Hope this is of some use

If I'm not mistaken, you are looking for the gauge (size of holes) and the size of the net. Well, that's going to depend on what you are trying to catch : )
