Ask the people who are selling you your gecko what food he or she is used to eating. Changing food can be stressful if not done gradually.

How warm is he used to being etc.

Ask them if there are anything you really need to know right now, and listen to what they say.

Before you get you new friend, go to this like and read up some on what you need to know about your gecko. He or she is going to be depending on you to take very good care and provide all of their needs. You want to do a good job.

They are not hard to care for and make nice pets.

Good luck.
Look at the links on the Google search page ReDesign has linked to, but make sure you read the care instructions for the type of gecko you're getting as they have different requirements. From what I've read, the easier types to look after are the nocturnal (active at night) geckos. The day geckos are harder and not the best for a first-timer.
(We were considering a gecko a while ago, but went for a chameleon instead - see my avatar.)

Since this is in the future you've been wise to ask in advance. Try this page:
rspca.org.uk

L
