How do you convert beaded car pad to fit motorcycle? Answered

My husband bought a beaded car seat pad and wants to cut it down to fit his motorcycle, but he doesn't quite know how to go about it.  His major concern is that if makes a wrong cut all the beads might come apart...any ideas or suggestions would be appreciated.

It depends on the manufacturer of the seat pad, some will be fine by just cutting it out and others will just let the beads fall loose. USUALLY, If there are knots between the beads it will be OK. My suggestion would be to cut a template out of paper or cardboard of the bike seat surface and lay it out on the pad. Cut out the pad a few beads out away from the edge of the template so that you will have enough string to re-tie the knots if need be. As an aside, I don't think it will be all that comfortable.

I tend to agree -- the beads are surprisingly comfortable when sitting or standing upon them, but the idea of an irregular surface grasped between one's inner thighs doesn't seem all that appealing to me. I'd also worry just a bit about safety -- a loose saddle is a classic cause of horse-riding injuries, and anything which might cause you to lose control over exactly where you're sitting while doing emergency maneuvers on the bike seems unwise. (And potentially illegal -- check the regulations for the areas you ride in.)
