Get some "Music reading for dummies", type books, website etc.  You need to get a good overview in a logical order or you'll miss something important and not know it's even there.

I've got both of them and they were helpful.  If you are going to teach yourself you have to do more reading and research, but you can do it on your own schedule.

Websearch for "learn music notation" finds a fair number of resources. "Learn music online" also turns up some possibly useful stuff.

After that, it's all practice.

That is how I know it, this is very very basic. Learning to read from sheet music takes time and instruction. Not an easy thing to learn by yourself.
