most commercial dvrs are drmed to high heven with encrypted drives the only way to get anything off and existing one would be as the person above suggested a stream capture but that has to be done in real time better solution would be to hook a computer with a capture card directly to your cable/satelite box and cut out the dvr

you simply buy a video capture card. or buy the usb capture device like easy cap. they have good ones. and use nero to burn on fly. simplest way i know without buying expensive stuffs. except if you want a very good definition of your video.

i use easy it very cheap and easy to use. costs me $10 on ebay.

1. You're going to need a capture card:
http://www.google.com/search?q=capture+card&hl=en&tbs=shop%3A1&aq=f#sclient=psy&hl=en&tbs=shop:1&source=hp&q=usb+capture+card&aq=f&aqi=&aql=&oq=&gs_rfai=&pbx=1&fp=e64ee6e4e8056c32

2.All you have to do is connect the output of the DVR to the input of the DVD recorder.
