No. they measure various physical responses. They do, however, *use kinetic energy

Assuming you mean the energy required to move the pen over the paper and draw graphs.

The sensors attached to the test subject create a voltage, this is then amplified and used to turn a moving coil, similar to those in old voltmeters, to which the pen is attached.

The paper is moved along by motors.

Well sometimes on the reality shows a lie detector creates a lot of kinetic energy when the wife finds out about all of the husbands lies.

Unless you're thinking of an entirely different kind of lie detector than what I am familiar with, the only way I know of is to chuck it off the top of a building.
