How many VDC do I need to flash burn AA nicads? Answered

I have 40 or 50 AA nicads and was wondering how to flash them to burn the crystals out of them.

Just a caveat: If you're gonna do this, I'd suggest figuring out a way to do it from a distance, and preferably with something between you and it.

Nicads don't carry as much chemical energy as newer rechargable battery technologies, but enough heat in a closed chamber can still go bang.

(And I too am a bit skeptical of the claims, though I don't have any evidence either way.)

I am not convinced this actually does any good - The batteries don't seem to last long afterwards. In the end I gave up and replaced my cordless drill with 2 x 12 volt lead acid batteries at a fraction of the cost of a new battery pack using Nicads or NiMh

I managed to save an old Micro T battery pack by zapping it with a 24 volt 1.5 amp charger. Judging by the other answers here, most voltages will work (as long as the power supply can put out enough amps).

Low voltage, high amperage -- like whats put out by an arc welder.

How bad do you wanna burn it   Never mind.
I never knew they had crystals.
Are you trying to recondition AA nicads ?

if you want fireworks, frollard has your answer.
