How should I build a digital "counter with a seven-segment display? Answered

I have a seven segment LED display and I would like to build a digital counter that will increase or decrease the number value displayed on the display when I press a button (a button for counting up and a button for counting down).

So I would like to be able to press one button to increase the displayed value (1, 2, 3...) and then press a different button and have the value decrease (9, 8, 7...).

Thanks for the help!

Start here:

That shows you how to make a countdown version. It would be VERY easy to modify the code so it could count up as well.

Depending on how many digits you need it could get tricky.  You're limited by the I/O pins available on the microcontroller to drive segments.

Because of this, you'll have to use multiplexing (https://www.instructables.com/id/Arduino-7-segment-countdown-timer/step2/What-is-multiplexing/) or Charlieplexing (https://www.instructables.com/id/Charlieplexing-7-segment-displays/) if you want to drive a lot of digits.

Good luck!

Why don't you type "digital counter" into the search box in the middle of this page?  Or try a search engine.
