I have a Garmin Vista HCx mostly because it runs on 2 Alkaline AA-Cells for up to 50h straight. And 4-12 AA-cells in your backpack are lightwight. If you would, you can take Lithium and you should be OK for >100h per set.

So my most important thing was not the fancy screen (It is non-Color, low-resolution) but the accurancy / sensibility (Superb by the Sirf III-Sensor) and the runtime / standard and availability of the powersource.
