Where are you connecting the headphones? Are they plugged into the back panel or into a headphone connection on your case that is connected to the front panel header on the motherboard?
The audio output connections on the back of the motherboard have no pre-amp. They are meant to be used by speakers with there own amp. The front panel audio connector head on the board has a pre-amp so you can get good audio from a set of headphones.

Add in a sound card. Even the cheapest cards usually have half or a full amp of power. Usually MUCH more power than you need in a small room. You should be able to get one for less than $15.

I think the easiest thing to do would be to obtain a set of amplified speakers, of the kind intended for use with a personal computer.
In my country, the former US, a set of speakers like this costs about 10 USD new. For example:

Also I have seen speakers like this on the used market, e.g. in thrift stores, for much lower prices.

external amplifier
An LM386 isn't too costly although not Hifi There are lots of other options.
