How to make a dress like this? Answered

I have tis awesome white fabric that has blue ribbon stripes on it! the stripes go diagonally. I want to make a dress resembeling this: http://store.delias.com/item.do?itemID=58370&categoryID=1998

You could do this a couple of ways.

The first would be to purchase a similar dress pattern, and make the alterations needed, and make a ruffled piece for the bodice.

The second would be to find a similar dress (from a thrift store) and alter it until you have the right look. Then take it apart and use the pieces to make your pattern.

In either case, if you're kinda new to sewing, I would also get some similar fabric to make a practice dress before you commit to using your new fabric. I'm assuming the new fabric has no stretch (stretch is a lot harder to work with), so you could use some muslin, or an old bed sheet to make your practice dress. That way you can learn as you go, and fix any mistakes you make before you use up the new fabric.
