How to output changing (occasionally updated) filename onto webpage as text? Answered

I would like to display the latest version of a software program as text on a graphic button which would take users to a update page. Im aware there could be various ways to do this like using php to output the filename over a graphic of the button. Or maybe just telling php to grab the filename and insert it into the html. I have very little experience with html/php, so preferably the solution would be easy. Of course, the real filename would have to be hidden from user's view, or the webmaster could possibly have some kind of submit form to manually alter the text but that would be more of a pain.

thank you

Since you don't want to display the path, could you just use the phrase "Get the latest version..." on your graphic and then just update the link as needed?

Updating the link is the fastest way, and can be done by opening the source code in just a simple text editor and saving the changes to the server. (Providing you have the access to do so... otherwise you send the info to whomever does.)

Hope that helps you.

yeah thats probably the easiest solution, as id have to do a lot more reading in order to get the php working I think etc with shadow effects and transparency etc.

thanks, I never actually thought of that alternative.
