How to power a rear camera ???
Hi ... could some one help with powering up a rear camera ??? I bought this one for my car ... but I'm not sure about how to power it. I know, that I have to use the "cigarette lighter" socket. But do I have to use any resistors to protect/not to burn the camera ??? Or its just fine to buy a car socket adapter, solder the wires and that's it ???
Camera : power supply 12V, current consumption 50mA.
Thank you very much.

You may be able to tap into the rear-light supply, but cars these days may pick that up as an electrical-fault. Try it anyway, it's only 50 mA, connect to power supply to the reversing light (I assume that's what you want it for?)

I did this before, with my first one and it stopped working. I couldn't use it any more. So that's why I asked, how to do it now to avoid the same mistake.

You can't avoid the same mistake without knowing what that mistake was. How exactly did it stop working - totally-dead or not functioning as it should?

Totally dead ... I shipped it back. Anyway ... in three days I should get my new 7inch screen for my car, so I will try steve's idea.
thanks

Steve doesn't post comments without knowing what he's talking about. But we still don't know why the device broke...

I'd put a fuse in ANY 12V line in a vehicle, as close to the source as possible.
What connection is on the camera now ? just a cigarette lighter plug ?
Personally, I'd make a tap into the feed for the radio and use that.

For now, there are just bare wires (red & black) ... I didn't connect it. But I quite like the idea with the radio power supply ... I should/could try that. I will keep you updated, what happened.
Thanks

If it's a 12 volt camera just get a regulated 12 volt adapter from Radio Shack or equal and use that. If the camera is meant for use in a car, that's what is expected.
