Hp Compaq d536 power supply?
my Hp Compaq d 536 spoilt its power supply of 185 watt rating. i wonder if it is suitable to replace it with the same type power supply but of 400 watts. will it blow the mother board?

*spoilt*?
How, what were you doing? (don't replace until you know how it was spoiled)

after printing a document the computer just went out. it couldn't boot again. i suspected the psu and i bet it is spoilt. unfortunately i have no other way to check the motherboard

Mmm, I'd borrow a PSU, disconnect anything heavy (like a massive GPU) and see if it boots before spending money.

. A 400W supply should work great. It will only put out as much power as is called for by the computer system. 400W is the maximum that the supply can handle.

meaning if you exceed 400W it wont be suitable for it?

. As long as your system (mobo, graphics card, HDDs, &c) doesn't pull more than the PSU is rated for, you will be OK
