I have a windows 7 pc and it used to work absolutely fine until a week ago. It cannot sign in. HELP Answered

Last week I found my screen started glitching out (the screen displayed a static image) and then my pc became unresponsive. From that point on it would not sign in because "windows could not find my profile;it does not exsist) even though my account is still there. i can get to it on safe mode. Then i tried unplugging everything from the pc which worked and i could log in. BUT now I am lucky if it logs in after 15 mins or most of the time it wont log in at all. but if it does log in the pc is perfectly fine and it is fast and none of my files are missing. If i let it sit for more then 10 mins then the screen saver freezes and the whole process starts over. I have done a disk check at start up like a billion times and each time it says something about deleting a: (lastalive~1) or something. It was not a brand new pc but i wiped the Hard drive and it worked fine for around 3 weeks until last week. As im writing this comment it decided to log in and now im gonna use it. PLEASE HELP. also i have tried restore points but it doesn't help anything. :(

Sounds to me like a fan problem. If the fans in the video card are not running the way they are supposed to it will cause it to overheat and shut down or lock up. Running in safe mode uses the very minimal video card settings so it does not heat up as fast and might run OK for a little longer. If this is a notebook blow the dust out of the fans and see if they are turning. If it is a desktop then borrow a video card from someone and try replacing it to test if that is the problem.

It sounds like hardware but there is always a chance it is not. To tell for sure download a version of Knoppix which runs completly on a DVD and boot with that. If Knoppix won't run then its a hardware issue.

One of the first things to go in a PC is the HDD. HDD tend to start having problems after about 5 to 8 years of use. Start with a new HDD and see if you still have problems. Another possible issue would be the RAM. If one of the Dimms is faulty then it could be loosing data causing the CPU to keep going back to the HDD to retrieve files. Try running Memtest and see if all the RAm checks out.

I tried the MemTest and it said nothing was wrong (the funny part is it restarted for the test and it had absolutely no problem login in)

If you dont have a virus causing it then a reformat of the OS and a fresh install might be the answer.
