. I think you are looking for an audio preamp. Try Googling something like "preamp +circuit" or "preamp +schematic"

Good idea but I was trying to keep th electricity usage down to spinning the turntable.

. You may also need an RIAA equalizer for the phonograph. If you only need to boost the phono signal, you can get preamps with RIAA eq built-in.

No.  I need amplification for recording NOT playback.

.  You will need RIAA eq somewhere in the train or it will sound terrible.
.  I know of no recorders that will accept a phono cartridge level signal - you will most likely require a preamp.

Like I said, I will be recording without electricity which makes it extreemly hard to worry about R.I.A.A.

preamp circuits take very little electricity. they are not power amplifiers
