I think you guys need a public "talk to the editors" thread in the forums. Answered

I've been thinking that you guys need a personal public "talk to the editors" section in the forums.  There have been many times I'm working on a project that I'd like to get an editors view of what I'm doing, or that I'd like advice from the creative people there.  And it would be great to have an open line to each editor, visible to everyone, in which to share ideas and opinions.  I know we can ask questions via personal messages, Kiteman and caitlinsdad ;)))   this is more direct to each editors creative abilities.

Awesome, I'll be there! Can't wait to see the announcement. Thank you for making this available to us.

We do need that, Attmos.

I'm interested in suggestions for timing and the best way to publicize it for the site regulars. Also, who do you want to hear from?

I was thinking we'd run these as moderated Friday open threads, starting around 1PM PST. That'd grab our East Coast authors and let us keep the thread open while the editors are actually at work. But I'm open to all non-weekend suggestions.

Well, actually, I know that all of you are very busy all the time so I wasn't thinking about any kind of live chat, although that would be cool. If you could pull that off it would be great and would need nothing more than a feature on the home page for a while. Fridays while everyone's winding down from publicizing sound great.

I was more thinking about a public chat that went directly to each editors personal site email, open to response from the editor when they have time. Nobody wants to make your days harder, and hopefully nobodies project is on a strict deadline. Now that I think about it, a designated time might be less invasive.

As for who I want to hear from, I think all of the department editors; their amazing creativity is why I'm asking for this. But if there are other people in the company who have creative and specialized experience who would like to host such a thread, it would be a chance to introduce more members of the instructables crew.

I'll think more on it if you'd like my input.

When we start this I want to try designated times (1-4 on Fridays, maybe) and just open the threads super early. That way we could open the thread on Thursday to start collecting some early questions, then be on hand in real time for Friday. I don't want to obligate anyone to play digital hooky from work.

I figure we lead by example as editors, then invite various luminaries from the community to participate as well. Might be a fun extension for the featured authors, for example.

This is also a great opportunity to invite the community into our workshop to see what we're making on Build Day at the end of each month.

Would it be a "first come fist served" kind of thing, I just envisioned editors juggling 20 conversations at once.

That sounds logical to me. I hadn't thought of building up questions early, that would make the conversations slow down by the end of the day Friday. I'm curios to know what Build Day is.

We've actually been considering some stuff like this! You're reading our minds. :D

We also want to find a way to start utilizing the groups on the site to make sure everyone has a place to go when they want to talk shop with people interested in the same things - though that's probably a bit farther out.

That's nice to hear. I'll be looking forward to it.
