I wanna make steampunk lamp. Answered

I wanna make steampunk lamp. I was thinking some kind a magical or science fictional lamp.
Light that truns on when there's is a sound in a room, human voice or something like that.  Turns off when no one is making sound.
I don't know what to use as sound cather.

I have old wooden candle leg.

I think piezo is not right for cathing sounds like human voice in air.
I don't wanna make lamp that turns off and on when I say on the mic something.
I wanna make lamp that starts glowing when it catches sound. Turns off when it don't catch any sound like human vocie.

I don't know what to use as sound cather. I think piezo element is not right. Maybe mic element or someting like that is better.

I tried to Drill hole through candel leg. drill bened and drilled wrong not straight.
Drill broke some of wood. Looking more ideas how to make steampunk leg for lamp.

Making this lamp https://www.instructables.com/id/A-Steampunk-lamp-with-muliti-color-LEDs/
I don't wanna make exactly the same lamp leg.

I searched and found metal tube legs and wooden box legs.
Maybe i need to use metal tubes...*-)...or wooden box. For me getting cigar box is hard. I Live in estonia and cigar boxes are rare in estonia. I think I need to find used wooden lamp leg or better big cande leg what is easy to work on.

Saying "wanna" all the time makes you sound exactly like a baby, or a spoiled brat. Try "want to", like a grown-up.

A sound switch is EXACTLY what you need. It needs a timer, so that every time it hears something, the timer resets, but when the timer trips the light goes out.

A cheap one will work fine - an "electret" mic is fine.
