I want this cellphone thing, please construct? Answered

This is my dilemma and I am sure I am far from alone.  I work for an employer that does not allow me to bring my cellphone into the building because of data sensitivity issues.  because our cellphones all have nice cameras in them now, it's a no-no. I am a parent who would still like to be notified of an emergency.  What I want is a small device, I'm picturing a little disc or square that can fit in my pocket and vibrate if I receive a call from 3 to 5 specific numbers.  For example if the school calls, or if he calls from his cellphone.  I can know I need to run out on my break or find a way to call from inside the building and call him or the school back.  Kind of like a call notifier for emergencies.  Maybe similar to Life Alert. I am not into electronics and have no idea how I might equip a device and make it communicate with my cellphone through possibly an app or something.  I just want this.  If this happens to be some new idea and you'd like to develop it as a company, I'd appreciate some notification, credit and cut of the profits or purchase of the intellectual property.  You'd really be doing a working mother a favor.  Otherwise create this thing and sell me one.  I will definately buy one and sell some more for ya.

Alright, so what I want is something that is more of a convenience. A pager makes sense, but i don't want to pay an additional plan for an addirional number. That just adds another bill for something that may only be necessary in an emergency. It would be awesome if when I sign up for my AT&T or whatever company phoneplan, that I be offered a clip-on little vibrating or light up disk or something that signals from my cellphone when I get a call from one or more specific numbers. I have to leave my cell in the trunk of my car basically. I actually have a little app-development experience so I will try to make the app to program the number(s), but the the little light-up or vibrating disk is another thing.

Hello, Sann6,

Like you, I got my first mobile phone so that I could be contacted at work quickly, because my youngest was quite ill.

Why not simply buy a spare phone that is utterly safe in a data-sensitive area?

Something like the VX2 can be bought for only a few dollars (I've similar phones much cheaper in supermarkets), will take any sim (so you can just swap your usual sim into it on work days), and all it does is phone and text - no camera to record secret processes, no memory to store secret files, no email to contact rival companies, no games to distract you from your work.

If you sneak a pager device into work, your employer may not understand your motives.  Explain your worries, though, and present your solution, and your employer could well give permission for the simple phone.

I don't know your company, but they may be open to the suggestion that they supply very simple mobiles to the whole workforce as a "perk" that will cut the temptation for other employees to sneak their smart phones in to work for the same reasons as you.

Can't you take an old cell phone without camera? From the time when mobile phones were, well _phones_ and not mobile multimedia devices.

You want a pager perhaps?
Or give your school etc. a work-number.
