I want to make a backpack Answered

I have an old army jacket that doesn't fit me anymore, and i think it would be cool to turn into a backpack, i did the Tim Anderson and Star waterproof test on it and barely any air gets through, i also have an old backpack with broken straps i can use, what do you guys think? Any ideas are appreciated. BTW, my touchpad went out on my laptop today.

My suggestion, just do it, I'm in the process of figuring out how to build a boat, today it worked with a bow and a weird siege weapon, intuition works...

Well actually for a jacket one I'm thinking the arms would work as straps to some extent...

Folded over and sewed?

Yeah, folded and sew the adjustable bit of some normal straps in to them, though make sure you sew it on heavily and strongly, really overdo it there and it shouldn't ever fail you, for the bottom I'm think button/zip up the jacket and add a strong bottom the size of the jacket underneath, making it look more like a jacket and giving you a proper bag rather than a sack...

I can't think of any fabric i have that is strong, i can cut apart, and decent size to get ideas from. Would some Really thick felt work, it would be strong when i set it down and put stuff in it.

A few layers of felt coated with something to waterproof it a bit would be great, it's always good to make the bottom of a bag where it sits waterproof so you don't need to worry about setting it down...

Use old belts as the straps, the kind with a slip-through buckle. Or seat-belt belts.

Actually belts might look well with the jacket...

It would be awesome if you could make the backpack out of the jacket, and leave the jacket semi-wearable. But if you don't go that route, You could make side pockets, or shoulder straps out of the sleeves.
